I’m a huge fan of the works of H. P. Lovecraft, one of my favorite horror writers of all time. So I’m always happy to come across genuine Lovecraftian SCPs.
When I went through the wiki to build my list of the best SCPs of all time, I kept an eye out for them specifically. There’s just something about eldritch and cosmic horrors that I find irresistible.
Not all the ones I found were great, but many were fantastic. Here are my fourteen favorites.

SCP-093 – Red Sea Object by NekoChris
The Red Sea Object is among the most popular Series I articles, and one of the best Lovecraftian SCPs. The object itself isn’t particularly interesting, but the story told through the color tests is what matters. It’s a long read, and some stretches drag, but the ending is fantastic and puts the cosmic horror fully on display.
SCP-701 – The Hanged King’s Tragedy by tinwatchman
The Hanged King’s Tragedy is another early Lovecraftian SCPs centering on a strange play. Its Lovecraftian influences become clear once the play is performed. Incident reports of these performances show that they always spiral out of control, and an ominous figure known as the Ambassador of Alagadda appears, who we later learn in SCP-2264 is a genuine Lovecraftian entity. Yet even on its own, it still holds up as a Series I classic.
SCP-1739 – Obsolete Laptop by Chubert
The wiki is full of strange articles, and this is one of them. You might wonder how dangerous an old laptop could be. If we go by this Lovecraftian SCP, it could be a serious existential threat. We also see the questionable lengths the Foundation will go to in order to keep its world safe.
SCP-2264 – In the Court of Alagadda by Metaphysician
There are plenty of good Lovecraftian SCPs out there, but In the Court of Alagadda is my absolute favorite. What starts as a simple door turns out to lead to the interdimensional city-state of Alagadda, a place ruled by terrible, Lovecraftian entities. The world-building, the descriptions of the city, and the Ambassador of Alagadda make it not just one of the best Lovecraftian SCPs, but one of the best articles on the wiki.
SCP-2480 – An Unfinished Ritual by Metaphysician
An Unfinished Ritual is one of the longest Lovecraftian SCPs on this list. The writing is fantastic, and I loved the unnerving town and the strange events unfolding in it. Where it stands out is the disturbing imagery and the description of the fading creatures. It can be confusing, especially with the DMT element, but in terms of pure Lovecraftian horror, it’s well worth reading.
SCP-2682 – The Blind Idiot by faminepulse
Alien entities have a long tradition on the wiki, but this is one of the few that makes its central creature truly other. The writing is some of the strongest on the wiki, and while the description of the entity is excellent, the dialogue is what makes it truly outstanding. It’s by far the strangest entry on this list of Lovecraftian SCPs, and I urge you to read it.
SCP-3000 – Anantashesha by A Random Day, djkaktus, and Joreth
One of the most well-written Lovecraftian SCPs out there. Anyone familiar with Lovecraft knows his terrors beneath the sea, and this checks every box. A slow-building piece that grows into a fantastic story that’s about far more than an eldritch entity: personal journeys, challenged beliefs, the deterioration of memory. Ananthashesha is among the best Lovecraftian SCPs out there.
SCP-3003 – The End of History by Communism Will Win
A fantastic Lovecraftian SCP out of Series IV with some of the best world-building on the wiki, presenting a society that’s as alien as it’s human. I’ve enjoyed the descriptions of how that society functions, and the best part is the ending, when the Lovecraftian lurking beneath is revealed.
SCP-3004 – Imago by kinchtheknifeblade
Imago’s a Lovecraftian SCP tied to SCP-2825 – Cousin Johnny, which I never truly enjoyed, and yet I loved Imago. It’s a vastly more complex work, with historical details and a deep Christian framing. Its latter half is where the Lovecraftian entity emerges. It’s genuinely terrifying, and the ending is fantastic. It’s clearly one of the best of its kind.
SCP-3007 – World of Two Artists by Zhange
World of Two Artists is another of my absolute favorites. It centers on a strange, recurring dream of a derelict cityscape, and before long, you learn there’s much more to the dream and the city within it. What I love most about this Lovecraftian SCP is the artwork accompanying the article, which showcases the article’s true horror. Above all, what makes it such an interesting piece is, without a doubt, the artwork.
SCP-3125 – The Escapee by qntm
The Escapee is a paradox, which is exactly what makes it work so well. How do you contain something you know nothing about? The descriptions are fantastic and complex, and I came to love the mystery surrounding the supposed eldritch entity and the threat it poses. It’s not only one of the best Lovecraftian SCPs but also one of the best in all of Series IV.
SCP-3930 – The Pattern Screamer by djkaktus
Djkatus’ Pattern Screamer is a Lovecraftian SCP I loved, and among my absolute favorites on the wiki. It follows an investigation into a space that isn’t there, and what people see when they stare into it. The further the investigation goes, the stranger things become, until we learn of the Pattern Screamers and how dangerous they are. One of the strangest entries here, and a delight for anyone who loves the weirder, more mysterious side of the wiki.
S. D. Locke’s Proposal – When Day Breaks by S D Locke
One of the few genuine Lovecraftian 001-proposals, and one of the most beloved on the wiki. It doesn’t concern an eldritch being entering our world, but the sun itself: when it suddenly changes, it brings an apocalypse like no other. It’s also far more character-driven than you might expect, and centers on someone coming to terms with the end of the world. Truly one of the best 001-proposals and one of the best Lovecraftian SCPs.
Tufto’s Proposal – The Scarlet King by Tufto
Tufto’s proposal is one of the grandest, most artistic articles I’ve read, full of philosophical musings. It’s superbly written and features one of the wiki’s most beloved creations, the Lovecraftian entity known as the Scarlet King. Tufto’s interpretation departs from the familiar version and is no less interesting for it. My favorite 001-proposals and one of the best Lovecraftian SPCs on the wiki.
